Only God Forgives

This Afternoon in Llandudno I have been to see Only God Forgives.

A stylish, visceral gangland vengeance thriller from the director and star of 'Drive'. American fugitive Julian (Ryan Gosling) is hiding out in Bangkok, where he runs a boxing club as a cover for the family drug smuggling business. But his past returns to haunt him after his psychopathic big brother Billy (Tom Burke) murders an under-age prostitute. When Billy is himself killed, the brothers' fearsome mother Crystal (Kristin Scott Thomas) dispatches reluctant, conflicted Julian on a revenge mission. This leads him to deadly, samurai sword-wielding retired cop Chang (Vithaya Pansringarm), who's known as the Angel of Vengeance. Acclaimed 'Drive' director Nicolas Winding Refn gets another memorably brooding performance from Ryan Gosling in this brutal, stylised meditation on vengeance. Kristin Scott Thomas is also on scene-stealing form as the venomous ice queen matriarch. Equally terrifying is Thai star Vithaya Pansringarm, whose messianic Chang dispenses instant ultra-violent justice!

Riddick

Vin Diesel reprises his iconic role as the outlaw trapped on a hostile planet, burning for retribution! After his adventures in 'Pitch Black' and 'The Chronicles of Riddick', escaped convict Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel) finds himself back where he started. He's betrayed and left for dead on a desolate planet teeming with terrifying predatory aliens. But this stealthy warrior is nothing if not resourceful, not least because of his ability to see in the dark. All his finely honed survival skills are needed when a group of bounty hunters led by Dahl (Katee Sackoff) arrive, determined to take him dead or alive. Nearly ten years after Riddick's last screen appearance, Vin Diesel's furious Furyan explodes back on to the screen in this eagerly anticipated threequel. Also returning is 'Dredd' star Karl Urban as the necromonger Vaako. Joining the cast as bounty hunter Dahl is Katee Sackoff, of 'Battlestar Galactica' fame.

Pain and Gain

This afternoon in Llandudno I have been to see Pain and Gain.

Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson play pumped-up kidnappers in this tongue-in-cheek comedy. Bodybuilder Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg) works at the Sun Gym in Miami. When wealthy businessman Victor Kershaw (Tony Shalhoub) turns up at the gym, it gives cash-strapped Lugo an idea. He formulates a risky plan to kidnap Kershaw and extort his money by means of torture. He even enlists the help of recently-released criminal Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson). But while the guys' abs may be impressive, their extortion skills aren't - and when the plan goes horribly wrong, Kershaw hires private investigator Du Bois (Ed Harris) to catch his assailants. Based on the true story of the Sun Gym Gang, Pain and Gain sees mega-director Michael Bay taking a completely different direction to his Transformers blockbusters. With entertainingly meat-headed performances from Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, this is an outrageous blend of testosterone-fuelled thriller and jet-black comedy.

Elysium

This afternoon in Llandudno I have been to see Elysium.

Matt Damon leads an assault on the ruling elite in this thrilling sci-fi spectacular from the director of 'District 9'. In 2154, the gap between the haves and the have-nots has never been wider. The privileged few live on a giant orbiting space station called Elysium, where there is no war, no poverty and no illness. The rest of humanity scrape by on the ravaged hellhole that is planet Earth. When Matt De Costa (Matt Damon) is exposed to radiation, he has just five days to live. His only hope is to get to Elysium - the most heavily guarded place in the universe! If he succeeds, Matt could also restore equality to the human race. But Elysium's Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster) has a secret weapon: the terrifying mercenary Kruger (Sharlto Copley). 'District 9' director Neill Blomkamp benefits from a much bigger budget for this latest distinctive blend of sci-fi action and biting social commentary.

Percy Jackson : Sea Of Monsters

Today in Llandudno I went to see Percy Jackson Sea Of Monsters.

Percy Jackson embarks on a spectacular, perilous quest to track down the Golden Fleece! Dyslexic New York teenager Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) had quite a shock when he discovered that the gods of Olympus are real. Not only that, but Percy himself is the demi-god son of Poseidon! Together with fellow demi-god Annabeth Chase (Alexandra Daddario) and satyr Grover Underwood (Brandon T. Jackson), Percy now lives in the safe haven of Camp Half-Blood. But his peaceful existence proves short-lived, as destiny has another surprise in store. The Oracle warns that a terrifying ancient foe is about to rise again, bent on vengeance. Their only chance to save Olympus and the world is to find the Golden Fleece in the Sea of Monsters. And those beastie-infested waters are known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle! Based on the second of Rick Riordan's best selling Percy Jackson books, this sequel to the 2010 hit is another rip-roaring fantasy adventure.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints

An outlaw escapes from prison to reunite with his wife in this hauntingly poetic tale of doomed love. In 1970s smalltown Texas, Bob Muldoon (Casey Affleck) and Ruth Guthrie (Rooney Mara) are awaiting the birth of their first child. But this is no ordinary couple - they're dangerous outlaws and fugitives! The duo are apprehended after a heist goes wrong, but not before Ruth has shot local cop Patrick Wheeler (Ben Foster). Bob takes the rap and is sent to jail. Four years later, he busts out and hikes across the Texas hills to find his wife and the daughter he's never seen. But Patrick has anticipated this move and is waiting for him. David Lowery's strikingly beautiful and atmospheric modern-day western was the winner of two prizes at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Bradford Young's superb cinematography is matched by outstanding performances from Casey Affleck and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' star Rooney Mara

We're The Millers

Jennifer Aniston plays a stripper in this outrageous comedy about a pot dealer who assembles a fake family. When small time weed dealer David Burke (Jason Sudeikis) is robbed, he finds himself in debt to fearsome supplier Brad (Ed Helms). To wipe the slate clean and avoid being eaten by Brad's new pet orca, David agrees to smuggle a 'smidge' of marijuana over the border from Mexico. He figures the best way to avoid attracting attention during this mission is to recruit a squeaky-clean all-American family. Rose (Jennifer Aniston), the cynical stripper next door, agrees to pose as his wife. Surly teen Casey (Emma Roberts) and dorky wannabe customer Kenny (Will Poulter) play their kids. Piling aboard a shiny new RV, this unlikely 'family' embark on a weekend adventure that none of them will forget in a hurry! From the director of 'Dodgeball', this crazy comedy springs plenty of hilarious surprises.

Grown Ups 2

A fun-filled sequel to the hit comedy that proved you don't need to be mature to be an adult! Three years ago, we met old friends Lenny (Adam Sandler), Eric (Kevin James), Kurt (Chris Rock) and Marcus (David Spade). They'd reunited for the funeral of their former basketball coach. But over the course of a memorable weekend, they reverted to their schoolboy selves - despite being adults with families of their own! Now Lenny has decided to move his long-suffering wife (Salma Hayek) and kids back to his rural hometown. Of course, this also means hooking up with his old buddies once again. So the stage is set for a series of riotously funny encounters with bullies old and new, a crazy cop and even crazier wildlife. As the last day of school looms, these arrested adolescents find themselves in need of some life lessons - from their own children!
