The Hangover Part II

Tonight I have been to see The Hangover Part II.
The hungover quartet are in exotic Bangkok for this sequel to the massive comedy hit.
How do you top the debauchery of 2009's runaway hit 'The Hangover'? Find somewhere even more debauched than Las Vegas, that's how. So Phil (Bradley Cooper), Alan (Zach Galifianakis), Stu (Ed Helms) and Doug (Justin Bartha) are off to Thailand for Stu's wedding. This time, of course, Stu vows that it's going to be different. Rather than a big drunken blowout, he's opted for a civilised pre-wedding brunch. What could possibly go wrong? Well, after a quick drink, the friends awake to find the groom's future brother-in-law is missing. Then there's Stu's facial tattoo, Alan's shaved head, and their new monkey friend to explain as they struggle to find out what happened and get to the wedding in time. Mr Chow (Ken Jeong) and Mike Tyson return, while joining the cast are Liam Neeson and Jamie Chung, who plays Stu's long-suffering fiancee.

3D - Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Tonight I have been to see 3D - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Captain Jack's back, and this time he's in search of the fountain of youth - in 3D!
For the fourth instalment in the mega-popular saga, Disney have refined all the elements that audiences loved most about first three 'Pirates of the Caribbean' adventures. Johnny Depp's lovable, scheming Captain Jack Sparrow now takes centre stage as he embarks on a new quest. This time his foe is the most notorious pirate of them all - the dastardly and fearsome Captain Blackbeard (Ian McShane). As if that wasn't enough, Jack also has to contend with a mysterious woman from his past, the alluring Angelica (Penelope Cruz) - a con artist, mistress of disguises and tenacious swordfighter. But is she on his side or out to trick him? Has Captain Jack finally met his match? One thing's for sure, all those zombies and mermaids he encounters along the way aren't going to make his mission any easier.

Something Borrowed

Tonight I have been to see Something Borrowed.

This romantic comedy asks 'What do you do when you've just hit 30, and the man you've always loved is about to marry your best friend?'
Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin), a talented attorney with a New York law firm, has a long-standing crush on Dex (Colin Egglesfield). But Dex is about to marry Rachel's best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson). In fact, on one terrible night just after Rachel and Dex had finished law school together, a fatal hesitation from Rachel led to Dex and Darcy getting together. Rachel has always managed to hide her feelings, but after drinking too much on her 30th birthday, she wakes up to find that she has slept with Dex. Meanwhile, Rachel's longtime confidant Ethan (John Krasinski) is harbouring a few secrets of his own... It all adds up to a funny yet heartwarming look at the ways true love can test even the strongest friendship.

Attack The Block

Tonight I have been to see Attack The Block.
When aliens invade South London, only a teenage street gang can stop them!
From 'Paul' to 'Battle: Los Angeles' and 'Mars Needs Moms', alien invasion has been one of the big cinematic themes of the year. Writer/director Joe Cornish (of 'Adam and Joe' fame) puts a distinctively British spin on the genre with his feature debut, set on the mean streets of an inner city council estate. While five youths are mugging a passing nurse (Jodie Whittaker), a fiery object plummets from the sky. Inside is a space alien, which they promptly polish off. But they reckon without the rest of the invasion force and soon find themselves becoming unlikely heroes as everybody pulls together to battle savage monsters for control of their tower block. Openly inspired by the likes of 'Gremlins', this riot of gory fun also benefits from a pounding Basement Jaxx soundtrack and a terrific supporting role for Nick ('Shaun of the Dead') Frost.

Water For Elephants

Tonight I have been to see Water For Elephants.
Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon star in this magical tale of forbidden love.
Jacob (Robert Pattinson) is a young veterinary student with a great future ahead of him. That is, until a personal tragedy leaves him wandering penniless, without destination or hope. But Jacob has a date with destiny. When he hops aboard a passing train it turns out to be the home of The Benzini Brothers Circus - and its star attraction, the radiant Marlena (Reese Witherspoon). With no other prospects, Jacob joins the troupe. He starts at the bottom but his veterinary skills see him quickly promoted to working with the animals, including Rosie the Elephant - which brings him closer to Marlena. A mesmerising performer who has a natural gift with animals, Marlena is trapped in her marriage to the circus ringmaster and owner August (Christoph Waltz). An imposing mixture of charm and menace, August stands between happiness for Jacob and Marlena...

Hanna

Last Saturday I went to see Hanna.
Saoirse Ronan stars as a teenage girl raised from birth to be the world's most dangerous assassin.
Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) has all the strength, stamina and strategic intelligence of a fully-grown soldier. Raised in the wilds of Finland by her ex-CIA agent father (Eric Bana), her upbringing has been geared towards making her a deadly weapon - and the time to use her has arrived. But Hanna has come to the attention of others. Powerful and manipulative intelligence operative Marissa Wiegler (Cate Blanchett) wants Hanna for her own secret purposes, and will stop at nothing to capture her. As Hanna flees across Europe pursued by ruthless agents, she must teach those who cross her that appearances can be deceptive. Accompanied by a dazzling original soundtrack from The Chemical Brothers, 'Hanna' sees director Joe Wright and young actress Saoirse Ronan (just 15 years old at the time of filming) unleash one of the year's most gripping action-fests.

Cedar Rapids

Tonight I have been to see Cedar Rapids.
Ed Helms of 'The Hangover' stars in this comedy about a square guy who discovers it's never too late to have a wild and crazy time.
Tim Lippe (Ed Helms) still lives in his childhood town of Brown Valley, Wisconsin, where he sells insurance - though his career stopped moving forward years ago. But all this is about to change. When a co-worker is killed in a bizarre accident, Tim is entrusted with the task of attending the annual insurance convention at Cedar Rapids in Iowa. Off the leash for the first time since he can remember, Tim is bowled over by what for him is a really big deal. And things get even better when he meets three convention veterans who take him under their wing. Teaming up with gorgeous Joan (Anne Heche), experienced Isiah Whitlock (Ronald Wilkes) and fun-loving Dean Ziegler (John C Reilly), Tim is about to have the adventure of a lifetime.
